Newt, at the age of 35 (Eddie's age) is getting closer and closer to the day when he becomes spinster omega that no alpha would be caught dead spending time with, much less court. Newt never put much thought into romance when he was younger, focusing more on his animals. But now that his friends are all courting or have mates of their own, he can't help feel like a part of his life is missing. But no matter, he's too old and too awkward. No alpha will choose him.

Cue Percival Graves, Major in the army, one of the most handsome and eligible bachelors who has just come to town, finally leaving the service. Of course every omega in the vicinity throws themselves at his feet, trying to catch his eye. Somehow, he meets Newt. They form a tentative friendship, and Newt is always surprised when Percival initiates conversation with him.

Newt is convinced that they are just friends, nothing more, but one day Percival asks Newt to dance with him at a ball. Something that hasn't happened in years. He asks to start courting Newt, and things progress from there. They eventually get married and live happily ever after.
