Gramander, Jonathan Pine ain't got nothing on Percy Graves

Percival Graves is a hotelier who’s been dealt a poor hand in Cairo, where a person he was in love with was murdered for trying to alert the Ministry of Magic regarding an illegal wands and banned potions ingredients trafficking attempt. Working in Zurich, he encounters one Gellert Grindelwald, owner of Hallowbright Industries, a freighting company dealing in potions ingredients, building materials, and what have you. Amid Grindelwald’s entourage, he meets one Newt Scamander, whose passport reads “magizoologist” as his profession, but really is Grindelwald’s wide-eyed boytoy.

In revenge for his murdered love and his boiling disappointment over a beauty like Newt being attached to the worst man in the world, Graves makes his way back to the States, where he makes contact with one Tina Goldstein, agent of a fringe law enforcement group amid the vast bureaucracy that is MACUSA. Goldstein's in-woman with the inner workings of the government is Seraphina Picquery. Graves is to infiltrate Grindelwald’s operation – he’s a man whose background as an Original Twelve scion would mark him out for a socialite, but whose mysterious past has ended up with him traveling the world working itinerant jobs.

Graves spies on Grindelwald, brings him to light, and wins over Newt (who’s slowly realizing what Grindelwald exactly does). In other words, Fantastic Beasts gone le Carré, specifically flavored The Night Manager.

BONUS: Grindelwald looks like a modern version of Captain Jack Sparrow, because illicit dealings on a giant private Caribbean island/yacht? Truly, a modern pirate.
