The day Percival Graves finally handed his husband Newt divorce papers should've been the worst of their lives. Newt should've shouted and cried, got furious, demanded things, been vindictive – after all isn't that what cheating bastards do? But Newt signed the forms without a word, never contested anything, never asked for anything, or took anything aside from his creatures, hell even his clothes were left behind. Percival should've been happy Newt hadn't made a scene but it only unsettled him. How had the man who he'd loved so desperately, who'd broken his heart just so quietly left?
For almost a year the question gnawed at him, as he buried himself in work and drink until finally forced into a rather brutal intervention from Seraphina and other…friends. Months later, things seem very different to a finally sober Percival. He needs answers, answers that only Newt can provide. But after finally locating his ex husband, to his surprise Newt is back England, at his family home, leading a quiet life and apparently still single. But when he tries to get info out of Newt, understand why Newt cheated on him, with one of his friend no less, he's met with stony silences. It shouldn't matter, they're finished, so why can't Newt just why- he already admitted to cheating after all, and all Percival wants is the truth, the reason why Percival spent the last year in a drunken haze because Newt felt the need to betray their marriage vows. But with Newt not giving any answers and Newt's friends and family all giving him the cold shoulder, and some well placed threats from Theseus.
Percival has to dig around, delving back into their marriage, but as new things come to light, things that Percival doesn't want to face, will he be able to handle the truth once he finds out?
He always thought nothing could hurt worse than Newt cheating on him, but Percival should be careful what he wishes for, because the truth turns out much, much worse, and could destroy both him and Newt.
Because as the estimable Mr Oscar Wilde said: the pure and simple truth - is rarely pure and never simple…
