While Newts partner (Graves or OMC) is fairly progressive in his views of homosexual relationships, he is still very old-fashioned (or in style) with his views of how a relationship should be, meaning as soon as they are married, he feels as if Newt is in his custody and orders him around the house, punishing him when he does something wrong and expecting him to be a loyal homemaker with dinner on the table when he gets home and performing 'bed duties' without objecting.

If it is a OMC that Newt marries, perhaps Graves senses that something is wrong and tries to help Newt.
