Haha, okay, I should probably admit that indeed, I haven't imagined Theseus being *that* supportive but I haven't precised it either so you were right to read whatever you wanted into that. Anyway, I did imagine Theseus to be kinder and more appreciative of Newt, but still treating him mostly like a kid. So, he doesn't consider him a nuisance that should be shunned and removed from the public eye the way their parents do but he kind of sees him as slow and therefore needing help and encouragement (*protective capable older brother mode on*).
So it's like: "oh! Newt's managed to write a book, let's get it published, he'll be so happy!" *money changes hands* "he's interested in animals in the first place, let him, remember crazy Auntie Sarah from Edinburgh, she liked to play with her dogs as well, at least he'll have a hobby" *gets Newt his first puffskein*
He has best intentions, he just doesn't realise that Newt gets actually hurt and embarrassed at his actions although he doesn't speak up because it's still better than getting shipped to the summer villa by their father.
Sooo I guess he'll get extremely shocked by Graves who first treats him like a bumbling idiot he is and then suddenly starts asking for his opinions - and not about magical beasts - as if he's a fully fledged adult and even if he's a bit patronising at times he tends to be patronising towards everyone and it's not Theseus' kind of patronising... It's you-know-it-is-illegal-to-carry-nifflers-into-a-museum-I-am-going-to-stand-here-and-watch-you-try-to-avoid-getting-arrested-with-a-smug-smirk kind of patronising versus here-give-me-your-hand-we-are-going-to-look-for-your-murtlap-together-it-couldn't-have-gotten-far-let's-ask-this-nice-lady.
Omg, know I'm getting embarrassed about the length of that reply. I hope you slept well ;)
