Re: Credence/Newt/Graves, Grindelwald attack - Fill

Blood is pooling on the wooden floor, most of their possessions are shattered around him, but all Graves can think is thank God. There's blood on his hands as he carefully removes the tattered remains of Newt's shirt so he can treat the still-bleeding cuts on his back, and still the only words Graves can think of to describe the situation are thank God. Newt, at least for now, is alive, and that is far more than Graves had dared to hope for when he and Credence came home and found this.

Newt, still unconscious, whimpers as Graves dabs essence of Murtlap onto the cuts that cover his back and, when he notices that some of them go down to muscle, considers finding a healer. Credence, who's starting to shake (and if that's not a sign of impending doom, Graves doesn't know what is), takes Newt's hand.

"Please," Newt whispers, his voice hoarse from screaming. "Don't hurt them. I'll do anything, but please don't hurt them."

"It's alright," Credence, still shaking, says. "We won't hurt you."

"Please!" Newt's crying now, and Graves wishes that he wasn't too occupied with bandaging his boyfriend's back to comfort him. On a somewhat more petty note, Grave wishes that Newt could hold still long enough to for his back to be bandaged. "Hurt me instead! Kill me if you want to, just leave them alone! I'll do anything, just please-"

"Newt,do you want to die of infection or not?" Newt blinks at Grave's tone, and Graves feels himself relax a little.

"No," Newt croaks, and that relief abruptly disappears. "No. Grindelwald, please don't do this, please-"

"He's not here, Newt," Credence says as Grave finishes bandaging Newt's wounds and they all move away from the destruction that was their front hallway. "You're safe."

"Safe?" Newt is clutching Credence's hand like it's a lifeline as they all curl up together in their bed, and Graves wants to kill Grindelwald a bit more for the fear evident in his boyfriend's face.

"Yes. We're safe." Newt's eyes keep scanning the room, looking for the lie or the impostor in their midst. "Sleep, Newt. We can talk about this in the morning." Miraculously, he does, and Graves is left awake wondering just what had happened while he was at work and whether or not Grindelwald had used his face to do it. He had a sinking feeling that he didn't want to know the answer to either question.
