So Newt and Percy's families decided at some point when both children were very young that they needed a marriage alliance. Newt is sent to live with his new husband's family when he's maybe 5 or 6 to Percy's 11-12 (basing that on Eddie and Colin's actual ages, though feel free to change it if u want), and they get along well and become fast friends and they both go to Ilvermorny together (or a non-magical AU is fine too) and in the beginning there's not really a ton of awkwardness on the 'this is my future husband' front because they're both too young to care
