After he's found, Percival is very hurt that no one notice, but he hides it well and throws himself into first recovering from everything Grindelwald did to him and then getting back to work. No one can really look him in the eye, guilty and ashamed for not noticing that Percival had been replaced. Percival himself keeps the walls up always, not even letting Tina and Queenie close.
Then Newt comes back, and he's got a recovering, obscurus-free Credence with him. Newt and Credence meet the real Percival and suddenly the walls begin to crack around Percival's heart. Slowly but surely, he three of them fall in love. Newt and Credence adore Percival and he them, but they notice that he's holding back. They keep earning Percival's trust until he's finally comfortable enough to show them the scars his own father left on his skin. Credence understands whole heartedly, and Newt has his own special empathy. Together, they vow to help Percival recover from all that he's been through, recently at the hands of Grindelwald, and the past with his own less than ideal childhood.
