I've heard the name - and I know about how she switched to publishing her revamped stuff as original fiction which kind of gets teh "Eyebrow of Disapproval" from me... except that I am reworking a 99% original stuff fic I'd written erm, about a decade ago (?!??!). I never read her work but neither the fanfic descriptions nor the 'original' fiction descriptions sounded exaclty ...good to me. This is the Anon who started the discussions off, btw. I don't have a dreamwidth account. Must think of something to call myself.

That's one thing. But like, the thing that still sits like bad tea for me is how she was a BNF in the 2000s and she would hound and harass people who didn't agree with her. Self-plagiarism to a certain degree is like, whatever. We all do it in some form or another. But when it is done repeatedly and without shame... *eyebrow of disapproval* But Hi :) It's nice to meet you.

I knew she plagerised other people, but harassing people? I did not know that. *epic eyebrow of disapproval* Of course, I tended to stay well out of non-anonymous interacting with the fandom unless I was replying to commenters on my own fics. Yeah. It was a big thing that has since been buried and forgotten. A fair few people like Cara McGee who does the fandom teas and what not have publically said that they do not support her for the things she has done to others. Hey Hey :) Is it me or does it feel a bit weird seeing all the youngbloods? Not in the 'get off my lawn' kind of way. But the 'oh wow look how far we have come and how much we have achieved as a fandom' kind of way? Like, on one hand I feel like a lot of fandom norms and cultures we were probably used to have been supplanted with new norms and cultures, and while that's nothing wrong or weird, it does make me step back and look around me and think, 'huh'. Or is this just me?

What's been astonishing me is how well behaved this kinkmeme's been so far. I mean, yes, only fifteen pages in, but only one incident and that fixed in three comments. All the fandom memes and forums I've been to before this (including Potterverse in its youth) were so explosively DRAMATIC. That and how we all just know how to run the place so the "fuck it we'll figure it out later" of the rules is actually just fine.

Was there even an incident? I wasn't aware. Goes to show just how I am only here to troll for prompts hahaha... But in all seriousness, I am very thankful that a lot of the dramatic tendencies of the kinkmemes/fandom/forum of the 2000s did not carry through to this decade. Though, it should be said that Your Kink Not My Kink is still the most basic lesson that should be compulsory for every youngblood to learn before stepping into these dark waters of doom :D

It was like a very subdued *foot in mouth* "could you not" "oh sorry that is not what i meant" "it's okay". Which, frankly, is kind of amazing compared to what counts as incidents in other kinkmemes.

But are they dark waters of doom? Or is it just the youngbloods stirring up mud from the bottom of the otherwise clear lake? A year or so ago I would have said fandom without high drama was impossible. Now I'm not so sure.

Fandom without high drama is possible. As long as everyone remembers that, again, Your Kink Is Not My Kink And That's Okay and that peace in fandom is only possible if we think three times about starting shit. Like, I used to write for the Warcraft movie fandom but I peaced out and took all my fics with me because some of the youngbloods kinkshamed me on the obviously nsfw chat (though in defence of them, they didn't mean it in the way of "ewww" more of like "that's a bit weird why would you even like it" and they have apologised to me personally, but the damage was done). I mean, I suppose that is what happens when you don't have kink memes? When all you have is a chatroom to prompt things and stuff, these types of things happen? IDK. Point is, after that incident I had a renewed appreciation for kink memes.

NA who loves existing on kinkmemes. Honestly, when a fandom's kinkmeme dies out or when I have reasons to stop using it, I start to drift out of the fandom. It's not even the anonymity necessarily, it's the community and the fact that I enjoy filling prompts and gifting people, but without the pressure and commitment of exchanges. (and I also like to basically write about my own kinks but be able to blame someone else for the idea :p)
