Fill: Mending the Broken 9: Interlude
Percival did not want to go home.
He was Director of Magical Security but he was scared to face his husbands. When morning had come, he had looked back on last night and felt embarrassed. Tina kept
saying that it was okay, that he was alright, but it didn't feel that way. She had already left to tell the President that Percival was taking an emergency day off.
She had also offered him the extra bed for his use until further notice.
Which was to say he could stay there for as long as he liked, Queenie had explained kindly.
It was a nice thought, but Percival had to go home some time.
He paced outside the building several times, then apparated home.
Instead of aiming for the front door, Percival made sure to apparate to the edge of the grounds and slowly walk to the house.
What could he say?
"Sorry I suspected you of drugging me, but you can't blame me, can we start over?"
Or maybe
"I overreacted last night, I'm sorry if I scared you."
Percival took a deep breath and knocked on the door.
It was pulled open in a hurry.
"Percival!" Newt was standing there. He had dark circles under his eyes, as if he hadn't slept the entire night.
They stood there for a long moment, just staring at each other, then Newt backed away. Percival hesitated, then stepped into the house. Credence was at the bottom of
the stairs, fidgeting with something in his hands.
"I'm sorry-" Percival started to say, but he was cut off by both younger men talking at the same time.
"We're sorry-"
"We shouldn't have-"
"We were scared-"
"-but that's not an excuse-"
"-'ve got no right to ask-"
"forgiveness for taking advantag-"
"-punishment please?"
Percival was stunned when Credence thrust something into his hands.
He looked down.
It was a leather belt.
Credence was biting his lip, looking at the floor. Newt was doing the same thing.
Percival looked from them to the belt, then back to them again.
"I wouldn't," he said feebly, letting it slip from his fingers.
"You should," Credence hissed, eyes watery with tears "Miss Goldstein was right, we thought it was us taking a safety precaution, but it was just -"
"It was rape," Newt admitted "It really was."
"You've the right to punish us anyway you see fit."
They clearly expected some form of retribution. Percival pulled out a chair and sank into it. He felt too old for this sort of thing.
"But I don't want to," he said quietly.
Newt's head shot up. Credence gave him an incredulous look.
"But we-"
Percival held up a hand to stall their words.
"Do you honestly regret it?"
Twin nods.
"You honestly didn't drug me yesterday?"
Newt shook his head vehemently.
"And you actually really wanted to sleep with me last night?"
Credence nodded.
"I wanted to, because you're nice, and I'm really sorry," he blurted out.
Percival looked to Newt, who ducked his head again.
"Credence wanted me to give you a chance," he admitted.
"I scared the two of you when I left suddenly," Percival said quietly "I'm sorry for that too."
"You've nothing to be sorry for!" Credence threw himself at Percival's feet, tears welling up in his eyes "Please don't send us away!"
"No one's sending anyone away," Percival interrupted. He sighed long and loud, then hesitantly gathered Credence into his arms, giving the younger man a squeeze.
"You don't have to force yourself to like me," he told the both of them "I'm aware that the two of you didn't have a chance and that I'm probably your last choice. If
you're happier with each other, then -"
"No! I want to be happy with you, all of us together, please? Newt you agree, right?"
"Percival, I've not repaid your kindness with kindness and done you a great disservice," Newt blurted out "I thought it should have been me giving you a chance, but
the reality is that I should be begging you for a chance," he admitted "Could you let me try? Try to be a better husband?"
What else could Percival do? He reached out and tugged Newt into the embrace.
"I would like to say it's over and done with, but I don't know if I can forget this easily," Percival mumbled into Credence's pajamas "Give me time, alright?"
His two husbands nodded tearfully against him, pulling him closer.
Nothing was okay, not yet, but maybe it would be.
In time.
