FILL: Real!Graves/Newt/GrindelGraves - Accidental soulmates 2/?
(Anonymous) 2016-12-13 07:27 pm (UTC)(link)He was down to his undershirt, his arms left bare so that Grindelwald had access to the veins as he needed them. Percival bared his teeth at the thought. He’d work his way out, someway, somehow. If only he had access to his magic! He tried to drive a spark to his fingers and cringed back as pain crackled through the tethering, driving him to his knees briefly.
Just a moment, he thought, he’d just take a moment to – breathe. He clenched his fist weakly before slumping against the bed frame. How long had it been? He wondered if anyone had noticed yet. Percival smiled grimly. He wondered if anyone would ever notice.
There was an itching feeling growing over his ankle and he wrapped his hand over it briefly, imagining he could feel warmth emanating from his soul mark. The itch intensified and Percival rolled up his trousers, crossing his leg to examine his ankle. He couldn’t remember it feeling like this before.
He tilted his ankle so he could see it better and felt the bottom drop out of his stomach.
It was fading.
The messy handwriting that had lived there for as long as he could remember was fading. It was blurring for a second before solidifying again, greying in and out, in and out.
“No,” Percival breathed. Not Newt, not his Newt, he couldn’t be dying. “No, baby, baby, don’t,” he found himself pleading at his ankle. “Don’t leave me Newt, please don’t leave me, I can’t keep on going if you’re not –” The words were choking in his throat and he bit back a raw sob.
“Not my Newt,” he whispered, the words agonising. He felt like he already knew his soulmate, the wry letters from Theseus that related the latest exploit Newt had gotten himself tangled up in a cherished part of his month, reading greedily about the niffler that he’d rescued from the goblins – ‘he calls that hell-beast Daisy, Percival. Daisy. That’s the name of a cow, a placid, wide-eyed muggle thing – not some devilish heist-running nightmare. I’ve had to have the goblin department open negotiations with Gringotts on his behalf because they’ve tried to ban him from the building’. He’d been in Ecuador until recently, Graves knew that. Theseus had been hinting in his letters that maybe Newt would be coming by New York, ‘have you been keeping an eye on immigration recently?’
“Come on Newt,” he beseeched his words as they flickered darker for a second. “Come on darling, you’re all that’s keeping me going now.”
Maybe he had come to New York, Percival found himself thinking. Maybe he’d sought out Percival Graves, gone in with those wide eyes that Percival had memorized from his photo. Maybe he’d extended his hand expectantly and Grindlewald had – he had – he couldn’t suffer loose ends, and someone able to go to the aurors and tell them ‘this is not Percival Graves’ would be one hell of a loose end. He could see it now, his Newt with that shy smile and those green eyes, looking up at him and Grindlewald smiling back, making sure they were undisturbed before he breathed a spell- Those eyes turning glassy in death –
The words had flickered almost translucent and Percival covered his eyes, pressing his palms down hard. “Newt, sweetheart, please,” he begged. He was crying now, tears leaking down his face as he struggled for prayers, struggled to find the words to throw out that might change what was happening.
“Please, please, please,” he chanted, not daring to look down, his heart stuttering desperately.
The itching subsided but Percival couldn’t bring himself to look, hitching sobs shaking at his frame. “Newt,” he whispered. “Newt, baby, you’ll still be there when I look, right? You’re not going to leave me?”
There was no answer and Percival swallowed dryly, scratching at his face. “Okay,” he whispered. “You and me, sweetheart. This is a promise. You’re still going to be there and I’m going to get out of this damned cell and I’m going to find you if I have to wring your scrawny brother’s neck to find out where you are. Deal?” He took in a shuddering breath. “Yeah, yeah, that’s a deal.”
He cracked open his eyes, blinking away the tears. His ankle, his words, his Newt – and he could have cried again, this time out of desperate relief. They were still there. Still stark against his skin, albeit ever so slightly greyer.
“Newt,” he whispered gratefully and buried his head in his hands again.

(Anonymous) 2016-12-13 07:51 pm (UTC)(link)I would not want to be in the same room when Graves finds out GrindelGraves has decided not to kill Newt and instead is wooing him.
