Hi. I'm Anonymous and I'm an Old School Potter fan. I was a Slytherin, according to Pottermore. How many other old schooler's are still kickin' around?
I'm Chu aka rootingformephistopheles (do you have to keep anonymous on the off-topic board? Ehhhh idc if people know who I am) aka the person who posted the bio-dad Graves prompt that sparked this discussion, and I've been reading the books as they came out since like second grade lmao. I remember strikethrough and the shipping wars and the snape wives and all of the drama of the early 00s fandom days and am frankly Very Tired that fantastic beasts appears to be starting some of it up again with the gravebone antis. D: #goodtimes
I'm slytherin ride or die, and having pottermore confirm this did feel rather validating. Pottermore did get my patronus wrong tho, because it's DEFINITELY a niffler and not whatever bs cat they said it was. Naw that lil sparkly asshole. That's me in my soul ok.
Hey! I'm Alli aka spunknbite - person who responded to your post that it reminded me of Severitus.
The anti Gravebones wank does suck, but I must say that it's so nice to have new Wizarding World content and an upswing in the community. When the original HP fandom tapered off, I was never quite able to love another fandom in quite the same way. Feels a bit like coming home, fandom drama and all.
I've heard the name - and I know about how she switched to publishing her revamped stuff as original fiction which kind of gets teh "Eyebrow of Disapproval" from me... except that I am reworking a 99% original stuff fic I'd written erm, about a decade ago (?!??!). I never read her work but neither the fanfic descriptions nor the 'original' fiction descriptions sounded exaclty ...good to me. This is the Anon who started the discussions off, btw. I don't have a dreamwidth account. Must think of something to call myself.
Also an old school Ravenclaw here - and boy do I ever remember watching that fall out. It was quite the thing. To be honest it kept me from even thinking about writing for fandom back then.
Old school potter fan, but I was always a lurker in the english side of the fandom, although I wrote some stuff in my first language. Slytherin, although I had a identity crisis after making 3 accounts on beta and only two of them put me on Slytherin, the other one put me on Gryffindor.
i got sorted into slytherin waaaay back in 2011/2012, and when i made a new account recently, i was sorted into slytherin again. at least one aspect of my life has consistency
I mainly lurked in the early 2000s, but did post a couple of rather maudlin fics on FFN back in the day. (They've long since been deleted.)
I always thought I was a Ravenclaw, but got sorted into Slytherin in the early days of Pottermore. It gave me something of an identity crisis at the time. I still don't know which fits me best. When I was an actual eleven-year-old, though, I definitely would have begged to be put in Ravenclaw.
Well if it helps your old identitfy crisis at all, I just ran an experiment (for my own curiosity). I opened two new Pottermore accounts - with different email addressed, of course - and answered the sorting hat questions exactly the same way in both. I got two different answers. Yet I'd punched in the answers identically.
So to you and everyone else whose been on these threads going "Pottermore says I'm not what I thought I was!": go with what you thought you were, not with what Pottermore says.
Technically old school, but have always been a lurker! Read a lot of fic but never really engaged with anyone (but that describes a lot of my life...) Haha. Pottermore first sorted me into Gryffindor and I was a bit bummed but then they did the change and you could re-sort and now I'm a Ravenclaw and much happier haha
Oh Jesus God forgive me. I'm one of the oldest old schools. I was ten when I first read Philosopher's Stone in 1999. I'm British. I was always a Slytherin at heart and Pottermore validated this. <3 Aaaaand I'm writewrongs on ao3 and Grindlywindlywald on tumblr and I am currently in the bin with Gravebone and diamonds.
I was 10 when my aunt gave me The Prisoner of Azkaban (she didn't know it was part of a book series) in 2000. I finished it quickly and asked my mum to give me the other two that were already out.
Came into the fandom shortly before the first movie. Never been in a fandom with that level of unbelievably insane drama before or since. And it all turned out to be in some way, connected! If you didn't know that (I didn't) you'd do something intended to be casual or innocent, and someone else would react in a way which seemed really really disproportionate. And that was because nobody trusted anyone at that point, there were paranoia land mines everywhere.
I still don't know if I want to deanon here.
But I hope us older fans can guide the young ones/newbies away from that particular cliff.
I do love that the HP fandom is so big and busy and well established enough that people just jumped right in with the kinky AUS, like there wasn't even a typical ramp up to it
I'm not sure what counts as old school hahaha I was in first grade when the first movie came out but I've loved the whole HP universe ever since!
I'm a proud Slytherin (isn't it interesting that most of us seem to be Slytherins?) and a Pukwudgie (which apparently favours healers and I'm a medical student...) Also my Patronus is a doe according to Pottermore, did anyone else get one?
Back in the day I got sorted into Hufflepuff--I've actually never taken any kind of sorting quiz and not gotten Hufflepuff--but a few months ago I re-took it and got placed into Gryffindor. I have no idea what that means. :/ Hufflepuff pride.
I also took the Patronus quiz twice and got an oryx both times. Apparently that's not supposed to happen, especially with a really rare Patronus like that. Again, no clue what it means.
